Marrakech - Asni - Ouirgane - Tizi n´Test - Taroudant
You will depart from Marrakech for Taroudant passing through a narrow road. This road goes up to the Valley of the Oued N'Fis, birthplace of the Almohades, the North African Berber Empire that dominated Muslim Spain in the last decades of the 12th century. At the head of this valley is the village of Ouirgane and nearby is the busy rural market town of Asni. Our route will go up the mountain for 15 km to the pass of Tizi n´Test, at 2092 meters. There is a breath taking view over the desert and a stair-like slope down to Taroudant, a beautiful fortified town sometimes called little Marrakech. Overnight will be in a hotel.
Taroudant - Tafraoute
In the morning after breakfast, we leave Taroudant and cross a region of olive and Argan trees to reach the Anti Atlas Mountains. It is the productive centre of copper which has been traded for centuries with the Saharan caravans and here you will discover a succession of mineral and desert landscapes with plots of almond trees in full bloom from February onwards. It’s a very picturesque region. Nestled in the Ameln Valley, Tafraoute is surrounded by wind eroded, jaded red granite mountains and is the most scenic when the almond trees are in full blossom. A few kilometres from here on an open peaceful landscape are some blue huge painted rocks, a tribute to the late wife of a Belgian Artist. The night will be in a hotel.
Tafraoute - Sidi Ifni - Legzira Beach
After breakfast we leave Tafraoute and we will cross the pass of Tizi Kerdous (1100 metres) and make a stop to see the extraordinary views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Anti Atlas Mountains. We will descend to Guelmim, a small town with a very colourful market; the capital of men. It is a melting pot of languages and Berbers, Arabs and Nomads. We will follow the coastal road as far as Sidi Ifni. This is a beautiful part of the Atlantic coastline, with magnificent natural rock bridges along the beach, a haven for beach goers and surfers. You will have spare time to visit the historical centre. Overnight accommodation will be near the beach of Legzira.
Beach of Legzira - Tiznit - Agadir - Essaouira
After breakfast we continue our travels following the coast road, we will reach a vast forest and arrive at Tiznit, the famous city of silver, where intricate pieces are crafted by gifted artisans and we will make a stop in the medina. If time permits it, we will have a short walk through a small village of fishermen. In a half hours walk to the left of the village, along the coast, there is a superb wild beach where you can bathe. We continue along the coast, through the resort city of Agadir, past beautiful panoramic vistas, places where windsurfers come to enjoy the perfect weather and on to the charming medina of Essaouira. In the afternoon, we will visit the Mogador and its ramparts. Overnight in a hotel.
Exploring Essaouira the Old Mogador
You will have a relaxed morning free for shopping or walking around in the ancient and delightful medina of Essaouira, immerse yourself in its tiny streets and cobbled alleyways, stroll along the ramparts and wander down to the fishing port full of brightly painted blue boats, perhaps you will find the fishermen selling their catch and you can purchase some fresh fish to be cooked nearby. In the medina, numerous artists exhibit their work and many gifted artisans work here and sell their wonderful crafts. Peculiar to Essaouira are the wooden products made from Thuya, highly polished and very ornate work. Take a walk down to the beach and perhaps take a horse or camel ride along the golden sands. From there you can clearly see the island of Mogador, now a bird sanctuary. Night in a hotel.
Essaouira - Marrakech
In the morning, after breakfast, we will make a leisurely return to Marrakech via Arabic towns. We will take a road that crosses the flat plains of Marrakech, the province of Haouz, an amazing area decorated with green Argan trees and where goats can be seen climbing in them to eat the leaves and the nuts. We will pass by Chichaoua, a huge melon growing region. We arrive in Marrakech and transfer you to your hotel or riad. You have free time for shopping and further exploring in the Red City.
